It is a great pleasure to pen a few words for our Newsletter for the first time since becoming Provincial Grand Master on 14 June 2007. I shall certainly never forget walking into Grand Lodge that day representing our Province of Linlithgowshire - it was, indeed, an honour and a truly wonderful experience. Another unforgettable day was, of course, my installation and the installation of the commissioned officebearers on Saturday 25 August 2007 in my mother lodge in Linlithgow with dinner thereafter at Linlithgow Rose Social Club. The Grand Master Mason, Sir Archibald D. Orr Ewing, presided over the ceremony with his usual aplomb and everyone present was mightily impressed with the manner in which the installation was conducted. The dinner was excellent, the toasts and replies first class, the sun shone throughout and a great day was had by one and all. To have been given this incomparable opportunity to serve in this office can I thank the Brethren and Lodges in this Province for their confidence and faith in me and for allowing me to be at the centre of Linlithgowshire for the next five years. I can assure you all that I shall do my utmost at all times and trust that I shall justify your support. I would also, at this time, thank most sincerely and pay tribute to the brethren of my mother lodge, Ancient Brazen No. 17, for the enormous support they have given me over the past few years and which, I know, will continue during my commission. It has been hectic ever since. One week after the installation was my first Provincial Visitation to Lodge Hopetoun St John No 1232 and these 2007 annual visitations are now just completed to be followed, of course, by the Installation season which starts at Lodge St Andrew, Livingston Station, No 1587 on 9 November 2007 and finishes with Lodge Pioneer No 1305 on 22 March 2008. Meanwhile, the Grand Master Mason accompanied by Brother David Begg, Grand Secretary attended the Reigning Masters Degree held within Lodge Polkemmet No 927 on 29 October 2007. I would like to congratulate the masters of the Province under the direction of Depute Provincial Grand Master, Brother Bob Scott, for an excellent working of the first degree in front of a packed lodge. Our Provincial Almoner, Brother Norrie Austin, and his team of lodge almoners have been busy organising the annual children's Halloween Party on 27 October 2007 in Lodge Lord Bruce No 1601 followed some four days later by a concert in Lodge Hope Bridge Castle No 827. I thank them for two well run events and for donating £600 to four local West Lothian Charities. As we are fast approaching the festive season, may I take this opportunity to wish you and your families a Happy Christmas and a Healthy and Prosperous 2008. Kind regards, Kenneth Lindsay, Provincial Grand Master. |

Rules of "engagement" and "capture" found! For those unaware of the purpose of the "Traveling Trowel" it is intended to promote good-hearted rivalry among the Daughter Lodges in the Province, as a "bonus" to raise donations for Charities. The "capture" of the Trowel is therefore warmly commended as cheerful fraternal fun and as a fund generating activity within the Province of Linlithgowshire.
